ABOUT: Erin Gleason Alvarez is an independent arbitrator and mediator. She also serves as Founder and CEO of Take Charge Negotiations, a consultancy that provides negotiation training, coaching, and strategy sessions based on mindfulness techniques.
GIVE: Negotiating with investors can be nerve-wracking. These discussions often lead to feelings of a power imbalance, weighed heavily in favor of those investors. I’m happy to help start-up’s work through these perceptions and develop a solid negotiation plan before agreeing to a package.
GET: We have one remaining seat open on the Advisory Board for Take Charge Negotiations, which will go for seed funding this year. I’m hoping for someone who’s not a lawyer (we already have plenty of those, lol), perhaps with a background in finance.
FUN FACT: I am very close to earning my certification as a yoga instructor, a dream I’ve had for many years.
NEWS: I’m very excited that we have created a series of recorded meditations to support women’s success in negotiation… from visualizing your ideal outcome to calming down in the middle of a vexing session. There’s so much emotion involved in negotiation but most of us are not taught how to recognize that and work with it.
